- Q & A
The .38 Special was designed in 1898 after the .38 Long Colt, which was used by the U.S. Cavalry, proved inadequate in battles. It was originally loaded with black powder, and although it was long ago changed over to smokeless powder, it remains one of the lowest-pressure rounds on the market today with a 17,000 PSI. Despite its being almost 125 years old, it’s still the most popular revolver round on the market, and still the most commonly purchased caliber by new shooters looking for a revolver. Guns chambered in this round boast good accuracy, manageable recoil, and ease of concealment, making it no surprise it has so many fans.
If you own a gun chambered in .38 Special, odds are you spend a significant amount of time shooting it, which means you’re in need of a big box of ammunition. These particular .38 Special rounds are manufactured by BVAC. At 148 grain these are considered medium-weight for the cartridge size, meaning they’re light enough to travel towards targets at good speeds while remaining heavy enough to impact targets with a solid slap. These are Lead Wadcutter, LWC, rounds and do not expand on impact, although the lead may deform on impact, but that shouldn’t be mistaken for expansion. WCs make nice, neat holes in paper targets, making them good for scored shooting. This ammunition is great for target practice, scored shooting, and plinking.
When you order this case of ammunition from BVAC you get 20 boxes containing 50 rounds each, for a grand total of 1000 target rounds. That’s a big box of ammo, so both you and your wheel gun are going to be happy for some time to come. There are a number of drills and skill sets you can work on with this ammunition, just remember, every time you squeeze the trigger your marksmanship is affected for better or for worse, so make each and every shot fired count. BVAC manufactures this ammunition at their established factory in the heart of Montana. Place your order now to spend some quality time with your .38 Special.
