- Q & A
The .38 Special has been around for well over a century, and over the years it’s seen extensive use. It was originally created as a more powerful option over the handgun cartridges in use at the time, all of which were proving inadequate against the era’s bootleggers. Bootleggers and mafia members would simply hide behind their car doors or wear heavy vests, which was more than enough to deflect bullets. That easy deflection ended with the creation of the .38 Special, and as a result it was quickly adopted by law enforcement agencies nationwide. From 1920 into the 1990s the .38 Special was the standard issue for our nation’s law enforcement, and although it’s since been replaced by bigger cartridges many officers continue carrying it as their backup gun.
These .38 Special rounds weigh in at 148 grain, making them medium-weight for the cartridge size. These rounds are light enough to move down-range at good speeds and heavy enough to solidly impact targets. These are wadcutter rounds and do not expand on impact but simply strike the target, penetrate, and keep on going. Wadcutters create nice, neat holes, making scoring easier thanks to the clean edges. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 780 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 200 foot pounds. This ammunition is good for target practice and plinking.
There are 50 target rounds in this single box of ammunition. These boxes are a great size for tucking in your range bag when you’re headed out for target practice or stacking on the shelf in your gun safe for a rainy day (or whatever the weather might be on the day you decide to use it). BVAC produces these rounds using carefully selected once-fired brass; these are remanufactured rounds. Because BVAC chooses its once-fired brass so carefully, you can collect your spent casings, reload them, and get even more range time. BVAC produces these rounds at their factory in Montana. Order now, and spend some quality time with your .38 Special.
