- Q & A
The .223 Remington cartridge has been around since 1964 when the Remington Arms Company designed it for use in the U.S. Army’s M16 rifle. Its parent cartridge is the .222 Remington but it performs ballistically right between the .222 Remington and .222 Remington Magnum. It became quite popular on the civilian market with the creation of the AR-15, which was meant as a semi-auto version of the M16. Today AR-15s are incredibly popular and also versatile with uses ranging from hunting to home defense to plinking.
If you own an AR-15 you’re definitely going to need some ammunition. These particular .223 Remington rounds are manufactured by MFS. At 55 grain these rounds are lightweight overall but within the standard weight range for this cartridge size. Being lighter enables them to travel at higher speeds and also helps keep felt recoil manageable. These are FMJ, Full Metal Jacket, rounds and do not expand on impact. In fact, target rounds fired from a rifle can travel for miles unchecked, so be sure you have a good backstop in place during range time. This ammunition is great for target practice, self-defense training, and plinking.
When you order this big box of ammunition from MFS you get 500 target rounds. With that much ammo you can dedicate serious time to your AR-15, blowing away stationary targets, honing accuracy, and getting some practice in before your next hunt. Each of these rounds has a muzzle velocity of 3055 feet per second. These rounds are made in zinc-plated steel cases with berdan primer to ensure ignition and extend their shelf life. MFS manufactures ammunition at their factory in Sirok, Hungary, according to CIP specifications. Order now to keep your AR-15 warm and well-fed.
