- We're glad to help! So long as you only buy 38 Special ammunition, you will be fine. For training and target practice, you want FMJ ammunition. We have some in stock currently. For self-defense you want JHP ammunition, with expanding bullets. Just a tip, your handgun may be designed to fire more powerful +P ammunition, but do not purchase 38 Special +P unless you have made absolute certain your handgun can handle it.
