- Q & A
If gophers are destroying your property, you’re likely to turn to your .22LR rifle for some pest control. It turns out there are some things you might want to know to make your extermination more successful – and easier. Gophers don’t wander around above-ground often. They seem to like temperatures between 45 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit; if it’s really cold or very hot compared to their underground homes, they don’t like to come out. They also prefer the dark, but will also wander out at dawn and dusk, though in wintertime, if the sun is concealed enough, they might come out during the day. Many shooters say the hour preceding dusk is the best possible time for varmint hunting. Just remember, gophers may not see well, but they’re hypersensitive to movement, so be still, and be patient.
Of course, information alone won’t help you bag the ten or one hundred gophers plaguing your property; you need ammunition. These .22LR’s are made by Blazer, which is a subsidiary of CCI. They were founded in 1951 and have a solid reputation for excellence in the firearms community. Their plant is located in Lewiston, Idaho, right near the Snake River, and all their ammunition is made to the highest standards. In fact, CCI is known for the quality and accuracy of their .22’s. These rounds have new production brass cases with rimfire primer and are designed to be non-corrosive.
There are 5,250 rounds in this case, and that’s fantastic, because you need to be well-stocked. These are LRN rounds, best for target practice, plinking, and training new shooters as well as the aforementioned pest control. Their lead nose does deform slightly on impact, but should not be mistaken for a hollow point. At 40 grain these are lightweight and in the standard range for the cartridge, helping them reach greater speeds and maintain minimal recoil. They have a muzzle velocity of 1,235 feet per second and muzzle energy of 135 foot-pounds. One well-placed shot will take out your varmints, so get some practice in – which you can, if you order this 5,250-round case, so place your order!
