What, many shooters ask, is a sabot slug? First, it’s pronounced “say-bow,” and second, it’s made with rifled shotgun barrels in mind. A sabot slug is either a lead-cored and copper-jacketed or solid copper projectile that’s supported by, yes, a sabot, which is designed to create a ballistic spin when fired from a rifled barrel. Traditional slugs don’t get any particular benefit from a rifled barrel, but they can certainly be fired through them without any problem. The average sabot slug, fired through a rifled barrel, is typically far more accurate than an unjacketed slug fired through a smoothbore barrel.
These are 1 ounce sabot slugs made by Federal for your 12 gauge shotgun. They’re 2 ¾” in length, which is the standard size, and deliver stunning knockdown power. Each slug bursts from the barrel of your shotgun with an astounding muzzle velocity of 1500 feet per second and impacts your target with a muzzle energy of 2189 foot-pounds. These slugs can be used for simple target practice and destroying pumpkins but are also often used for hunting large game. When fired from a rifled barrel their greater accuracy combined with their enormous stopping power delivers a clean kill every time.
There are just 5 sabot slugs in this box. While it’s the ideal size for dropping into your range bag or even tucking in your pocket when you go shooting, it’s really just enough to get you hooked. If you’re going hunting, you’re certainly going to want more than 5, because the worst possible thing would be to run out mid-hunt. Federal makes this ammunition at their plant in Anoka, Minnesota, to the same high standards all their products have been required to reach since their founded nearly 100 years ago. If you want a round that brings out the best in your rifled-barrel shotgun, get your shotgun-loving hands on these sabot slugs.
