- Q & A
Tired of using specialized turkey chokes when you go hunting? Hornady designed these Hornady 12 gauge 3” 1 ½ ounce #6 nickel-plated lead shot rounds specifically to do away with the need for specialized chokes. They function best with an improvised cylinder or modified choke and perform lethally up to 50 yards out. These are true heavy magnum turkey loads; they’ll deliver the impact you need for a clean kill and dense patterning every time.
Back in World War II, founder Joyce Hornady worked as a marksmanship instructor for the Army. He and his family resided in Grand Island, Nebraska, while he taught, and when the war ended, they stayed in the area. And as Joyce ran a sporting goods store, he became increasingly aware his true passion was in hunting. In 1949, he began producing ammunition, and now, more than 60 years later, Hornady is manufacturing some of the most trustworthy hunting rounds on the market. And if your choice of game is a turkey, your choice of round should be these 12 gauge #6 shot loads.
The unique Hornady feature to these rounds is the Versatite wad, a baffling system that helps extend range and keep the payload as dense as possible. During flight, the wad strips away from the pellets inside cleanly, working to keep the #6 shot together, which increases impact and decreases scatter. The payload is also designed to resist deformation. And with a muzzle velocity of 1,300 feet per second, it moves at a nice pace as well. #6 is a good shot size for turkey as well, being fairly large and therefore more effective for the large birds.
There are 10 rounds in this box, so you’ll be off to a good start when you go on your next turkey shoot. These are American-made rounds manufactured by a legendary company and produced to high standards; the list of reasons to use these rounds when you hunt practically goes on forever. If you want to get the most out of your turkey hunting time, then you want these Hornady rounds.
