- Q & A
If you shoot trap, a few simple tips could result in noticeable improvement next time you’re out whether for fun or competition. One basic tip easily discounted is to wear light-colored glasses. Dark glasses can dilate your eyes excessively, and your vision is going to be sharper if your eyes are less dilated. Proper stance is also a common issue, especially among newer shooters. Don’t line up your body in relation to the concrete, line up according to angle of the traphouse. Various stations offer varying angles, so if you take care to adjust your stance according to how the traphouse releases the targets rather than focusing on the concrete, your aim will be far better – and easier. Finally, think positively. You might be surprised just how useful positive thinking can be.
Shooting trap or either of the other sports, clay and skeet, requires a load like this #8 shot. Each shell is 1 1/16 ounce, so it delivers a little extra power over the standard 1 ounce load and greater velocity than 1 1/8 (it also has less recoil than 1 1/8). Many trap shooters prefer 1 1/16 for those very reasons. Each shell is 2 ¾” long. These shells are absolutely capable of delivering the speed you want for sport shooting with a muzzle velocity of 1250 feet per second and of course #8 will shatter clay just fine. These shells are great for practicing, because you don’t want to go out on the course without any practice, and can also be used to compete.
Rio manufactures these shells at their plant in Northern Spain. The company was established in 1896 and their plant is tucked back into the forest in order to keep the explosives away from the general population. At Rio, safety is paramount and quality is a must. There are 250 shells in this box. With that many you can keep your shotgun fed for some time or share with fellow sport shooters. Don’t get caught without enough practice or without enough ammunition; nothing ruins a day of shooting like running out of ammunition. Place your order today and find out the different the 1 1/16 ounce load makes.
