The only thing that makes this shell “heavy” is its shot column, really, which weighs one ounce instead of the usual 7/8 ounces you’d get from a target load. Each #8 shot pellet is impressively consistent in diameter, and the hard lead it is made from ensures that acceleration to supersonic velocity won’t smash it down to make it become less aerodynamic.
Winchester’s proprietary AA wad features a hinged midsection. The wad itself flattens down as soon as it starts to accelerate, which helps to reduce felt recoil while simultaneously keeping the shot pellets even rounder and tighter patterning.
This ammo is armed with Winchester’s famously reliable 209 primers, clean-burning powder, and the strong reloadable hulls any handloader would like to see at their work station.
