The TMJ’s ballistic and terminal performance are both identical to those of a full metal jacket (FMJ), which is to say that the TMJ cannot expand if it penetrates a soft medium. But unlike an FMJ, the TMJ’s jacket completely shields the base of its lead core against hot propellant gasses. The heat of ignition therefore cannot vaporize any lead off of the TMJ bullet.
