But what do we mean by “perky?” Well, this round’s bullet is actually quite normal. At 124 grains it’s the middleweight bullet for the 9mm, and as an FMJ it is merely designed to optimize functionality in a semi-automatic by promoting smooth feeding and reduced barrel fouling. But because the 9mm NATO is loaded to a chamber pressure of around 36,500 psi – as opposed to no more than 35,000 psi, which is standard – its muzzle velocity gets boosted to 1,200 fps. More recoil. Accelerated wear and tear on a firearm’s barrel and moving parts. Incompatibility with firearms that aren’t rated for +P. But as a trade-off, the 9mm NATO offers a flatter trajectory and greater striking energy.

This ammo’s bullets aren’t designed to expand as they bore into a soft medium, which isn’t the terminal ballistics most citizens prefer for self-defense applications. But it is loaded with Winchester’s usual reloadable brass cases, and as new production ammo its primers are 100% noncorrosive. Nonmagnetic bullets, too!
