- Q & A
The 62 grain M855 bullet looks like any old FMJ on the outside. Its core makes it special. The rear half is made of lead, but the front is pure steel. This makes the M855 bullet highly effective at penetrating drywall, plywood, and even sheet metal within ranges up to 2,000 feet. The “penetrator” bullet may even break in half inside soft tissue to create double the wound channels.
Do note that this round’s bullet is a little heavier than usual, and will deliver the best accuracy it’s capable of when fired from a barrel with a 1:9 or 1:8 twist. Its steel tip also makes the bullet magnetic and thus unsuitable for use at some indoor ranges.
Igman is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Unlike Russian manufacturers they do not load steel cases or Berdan primers. That makes Igman’s 5.56 ammo clean-shooting and 100 percent reloadable.
