This 5.56x45 ammunition by Prvi Partizan is a perfect choice for toying around with an AR-15 at the range. But as M855 ammo, its terminal performance offers a little something extra that makes it also suitable for personal protection.

This round’s 62 grain bullet is an FMJBT. On the outside it’s nothing too fancy, with a solid copper jacket that hardens the bullet for (A) reliable feeding and (B) the prevention of deformation during ignition that could have harmed accuracy. This round’s accuracy is better yet thanks to its boat tail, a tapering base which reduces in-flight drag to keep it flying straighter and faster downrange.

The bullet’s green tip indicates what it conceals on the inside: a seven grain steel spike (which is magnetic.) That piece of steel is why the M855 bullet is also known as a “penetrator,” as it drastically improves the bullet’s ability to pierce sheet metal at distances up to around 300 yards.
