More Details About Our 150 Rounds of 55gr FMJ .223 Ammo by Hornady
Hornady’s Frontier label 223 Rem ammo is good for an AR-15 any way you slice it. Do you want ammo for the range? How about varmint hunting? Or home defense? Heck, order this box of ammo and you’ll be able to devote 50 rounds to all three applications!
This cartridge has a 55 grain bullet, with the propellant it needs to achieve a 3,240 fps muzzle velocity out of a 22” barrel – that’s apples to apples the same as our Army’s own M193 spec 5.56. The bullet’s simple FMJ design grants it the jacket it needs to feed efficiently into a semi-auto’s chamber and avert rapid barrel leading. The bullet also ends in a boat tail which cuts down on in-flight drag.
Hornady has their high-quality FMJ bullet loaded for them by the good people at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. LAACP makes over a billion rounds a year for the U.S. gummint, and they give Frontier cartridges their own reliable Boxer primers and clean-burning propellant. You can see where these cartridges’ new production brass cases were induction heated for added durability. Handloaders make good use of Frontier brass!
