Red Army Standard 7.62x39 ammunition is all about saving you money! How does it accomplish such an important mission? Why, by nearly eliminating half-precious copper from the equation, of course!
Look as hard as you like. You won’t find one atom of copper in this ammo’s steel cases. Each one is coated in a thin layer of lacquer to protect against rust in storage, as well as promote smoother operation in magazine-fed firearms. You can’t reload steel cases, which means you don’t have any reason to wear out your lower back picking them up. Nice!
This ammo’s 122 grain full metal jacket bullets do contain copper – but not very much. Just beneath the FMJ’s copper-washed surface sits a layer of soft steel. It won’t damage your bore, but it will attract a magnet.
This ammo was manufactured recently. Its Berdan primers are accordingly noncorrosive, and don’t require special cleaning after the range day has reached its logical conclusion.
