SURE – you could choose any old 10mm Auto ammo for the all-important job of personal defense. But wouldn’t you really rather bet the farm on Hornady’s best, which is loaded with their accurate and very aptly named eXtreme Terminal Performance bullets?
No part of the XTP’s jacket misses a chance to enhance performance. The rim? Fully shielded by copper, which helps prevent (A) a snag during feeding, and (B) damage on impact that could have impaired subsequent expansion. The rim is also strategically weakened by symmetrical serrations, which help it split open more reliably at lower velocities. And because the XTP’s jacket is fully tapered, it’s even more capable of letting loose broad expansion as it plows through flesh. Very potent. Not to be trifled with.
This round’s bullet weighs 155 grains. Expect snappier recoil relative to a heavier load, which is well worth the price of admission if you want to see one of the flattest trajectories a 10mm load can deliver out of a handgun.
