This 308 Win ammo is from Winchester’s Ballistic Silvertip label. That makes it a go-to for hunting deer and other medium-sized game, although if you selected it for self-defense then there wouldn’t be much you couldn’t count on being able to defend yourself against.

This round’s 168 grain rapid controlled expansion polymer tip bullet is replete with performance enhancing features. On the accuracy side of things, it has a deformation-resistant polymer tip which streamlines its profile, a balanced core and jacket, and a boat tail which decreases drag to an extent that boosts the bullet’s ballistic coefficient all the way up to 0.483.

The bullet’s tip also initiates rapid expansion, even at lower velocities. The bullet penetrates deeply as its strong alloyed lead core resists fragmentation, and the contouring of its jacket controls uniform expansion for more consistent results. This bullet even looks neat – its black oxide coating reduces friction in the barrel to prevent engraving!

This ammo’s nickel-plated cases smooth out feeding and extraction for more reliable cycling. Nickel is also corrosion resistant, so there’s less need to worry about what rain and humidity will do to these deer slayers.
