More Details About This Hornady 62gr FMJ .223 Ammo
Loaded with first-rate components. Made in Nebraska by one of our country’s most reputable ammo manufacturers. Designed for seamless operation in all types of 223 Rem (and 5.56x45) firearms. It could only be Hornady BLACK ammunition!
This cartridge sports a slightly heavier bullet than average: 62 grains, as opposed to 55. That gives the bullet a lower muzzle velocity: 3,100 fps out of a 24” barrel, as opposed to ~3,240 fps. The payoff is added resistance to wind deflection.
This ammo is especially nice if you’re trying to train with 5.56x45 M855 ammo but attend a rifle range which doesn’t permit steel-core projectiles. This round’s FMJ has the same weight as the M855 “penetrator” bullet, and virtually identical exterior dimensions as well. But thanks to its solid lead core, it simply cannot attract a magnet.
Hornady’s high-quality primers and propellant won’t do anything surprising during ignition. Their new brass cases conform to highly uniform dimensions, and have all the strength they need to be handloaded over and over again. We strongly recommend ordering more than one box. We’re just looking out for you!
