More Details About This Hornady 62gr FMJ 5.56x45 Ammo
“American Made. Military Grade.” This is the 5.56x45 ammo you need to get full mileage out of your AR-15 come range time. Hornady’s Frontier line of ammunition features Nebraska’s high quality bullets and the quality craftsmanship of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant!
This round is armed with a 62 grain bullet. That’s slightly heavier than usual, so you get a slower muzzle velocity in exchange for better resistance to crosswinds as well as greater momentum retention downrange. A 1:9 or 1:8 barrel twist will give a 62 grain barrel the best accuracy, but you’ll hardly be poorly served by a 1:7 barrel. Aside from that, this is a basic FMJ: copper alloy jacket, solid lead core, and no steel that could get it banned from indoor ranges.
A military ammo manufacturer appropriately gives each Frontier cartridge a military grade brass case, which is perfect for reloading, and a non-corrosive primer as well. Each round’s propellant charge is carefully controlled to deliver a 3,060 fps muzzle velocity out of a 20” test barrel.
