- Q & A
Underwood loads this 9mm +P+ cartridge with the 90 grain Xtreme Defender projectile to solve the JHP’s great shortcoming. This solid copper bullet hasn’t got a nose cavity of any sort. Instead its tip has sharp edges, which enable it to slash its way through barriers such as wood, wallboard and fabric without losing its potency.
And potent it is! The monolithic Xtreme Defender’s radial flutes actively channel any soft tissues they come into contact with violently inward and then immediately outward. Even though the bullet does not change in dimensions, it produces a far wider wound cavity than its 0.355” diamer alone could account for!
This is a +P+ cartridge. It is abnormally powerful, hence its bullet’s ability to strike a close range target with over 450 ft lbs of energy and penetrate soft tissue to a depth of 18”. Take care: many 9mm firearms are not rated for +P+.
Underwood loads this ammo with nickel-plated brass cases. They generate less friction as they cycle through a semi-automatic, and also combat the gradual accumulation of corrosion. The Illinois manufacturer’s special low flash powder produces dimmer light to keep your eyes from getting knocked out of night vision mode.
