The FMJ bullet is powerful enough in its own right, even if it can’t deliver terminal expansion within its target. Its jacket is stiffened up with steel to prevent deformation that could harm accuracy, but it is magnetic as the result. A cannelure keeps the bullet planted in its seating while it’s subjected to recoil forces.
