More Details About This Armscor 77gr OTM 5.56x45 Ammo
Wearing shoes on your head.
Celebrating Independence Day in June.
Ordering prime rib at a sushi restaurant.
There are a lot of silly things you can do. Firing supersonic ammunition through a suppressed 5.56x45 rifle? That certainly ranks right up there – but you’re not going to commit such a grievous blunder. You are going to order a fat stack of Armscor’s special subsonic 5.56x45 ammunition instead!
IT’S SIMPLE PHYSICS, DUDE. This round’s 1,100 fps muzzle velocity (18” test barrel) is slower than the speed of sound, and therefore does not cause a miniature sonic boom on ignition. A suppressor’s not designed to tone down a sonic boom, which is why this ammo’s just the ticket for any 5.56 firearm with a “can.”
With low muzzle velocity comes low power. This round’s 77 grain open tip match is a reasonably accurate .22 cal projectile with a 0.355 G1 ballistic coefficient to show for it. But thanks to its itty bitty muzzle velocity – which is dwarfed by many 22 LR rounds – it cannot (A) reach very far, or (B) hit all that hard. Use it for target shooting only and you’ll be fine like wine in the summertime.
Please note: This is subsonic ammunition, and therefore will not cycle a semi-automatic that isn’t specially modified for that purpose.
