- Q & A
This round’s 115 grain bullet achieves a 1,155 fps muzzle velocity out of a 4 inch barrel. At close range it’s certain to strike with sufficient kinetic energy to neutralize a human-sized threat. But this isn’t just any old jacketed hollow point. It is Hornady’s eXtreme Terminal Performance bullet, which delivers such consistent ballistic performance that it’s frequently loaded in competition grade ammo as well.
The XTP really begins to shine once it hits its target. Its jacket prevents damage to the nose cavity’s rim that could have hampered full terminal expansion. The XTP’s jacket divides into symmetrical sections during penetration thanks to the serrations that are strategically placed around its rim. The XTP’s drawn gilding metal jacket also grows gradually thicker toward its base, which promotes more uniform mushrooming within soft tissue.
This ammo is loaded in Nebraska with reloadable brass cases, sensitive non-corrosive primers and propellant that is formulated to minimize residue buildup.
