50 Rounds of 85gr JHP .380 ACP Ammo by Federal

“Three-eighty” is an important number to me. It’s the weight, in pounds, that I can bench press at my home gym. I could go even higher, but weights are expensive.

But there’s an even better 380 that I’d like to show off: this self-defense ammunition, by Federal Premium of Minnesota (aka “The Gateway to South Dakota”). Personal Defense Punch series ammo can turn any pocket pistol into pocket aces during a life-or-death heads-up!

This cartridge is a well-made thing: first-rate brass, with a sealed primer and clean-burning P. The Punch bullet isn’t on the HST’s level in terms of barrier protection, although it reliably exhibits the penetration and expansion characteristics that are both ideal for neutralizing a threat at close range; potentially heavily clothed, although not necessarily shielded by vehicle parts.

Federal captured this round’s reported 1,000 fps muzzle velocity using the same 3.75” test barrel they use for all 380 ammo. Striking energy at 25 yards is 170 ft lbs; 100 yards, 132 ft lbs.
