This 9mm cartridge is loaded with a 147 grain XTP. It’s too heavy to break the sound barrier, which makes it a natural pick for suppressed firearms. The XTP features a drawn copper jacket, which is why it becomes progressively thinner the closer it gets to the hollow point nose cavity’s rim. That strategically weakens the jacket so it permits wider expansion at lower velocities – the same function served by its precision-cut serrations.

Hornady draws highly concentric jackets, which is why the XTP is able to exhibit such exemplary rotational stability in flight. And because the XTP’s jacket protects its nose, it resists deformation during feeding and impact alike.
