Barnes has loaded the ultimate lead-free 300 Blackout target ammunition, and you’re now looking at your invitation to enjoy it! This is the Utahan company’s Range AR ammunition, loaded with zinc core open tip flat base projectiles!
Zinc isn’t just a nontoxic alternative to lead. It’s also a lot less dense than lead, which is how this round’s bullet gets away with being so darn light at 90 grains. Its miniscule inertia allows the OTFB to gain 2,550 fps muzzle velocity upon clearing 16” of barrel. That’s over double the speed of sound, and indicative of one of the flat-out flattest trajectories you’ll ever see.
The OTFB’s open tip? It allowed Barnes to insert the bullet’s core into its jacket. It does not supply terminal expansion. The OTFB’s flat base? It promotes greater accuracy over shorter ranges (as opposed to a boat tail, which aids accuracy over longer distances). That plus its light weight makes the bullet perfect for target work at close or medium range.
