This round’s bullet is everything a long-distance shooter wants it to be. Heavy? Assuredly so at 69 grains, which means crosswinds can’t so easily move it. Aerodynamic? Equally so, as the bullet is an open tip match boat tail (thin/concentric jacket; form-fitted/rearward-situated lead core; angled base to minimize drag). It all adds up to give the bullet a high 0.330 G1 ballistic coefficient (for context, that number reflects a projectile’s aerodynamic efficiency; a 55 grain FMJ’s G1 BC is usually around 0.243). That’s why velocity retention at 500 yards is so impressive at ~57 percent!

Barnes specifies this ammo for varmint hunting as well. It excels at taking small game because it is so accurate, but make no bones about it: The OTM does not count terminal expansion among its many talents, and is widely regarded to be inferior for deer hunting for that reason.
