More Details About This Brown Bear 174gr FMJ 7.62x54r Ammo

Brown Bear is a subsidiary of the Barnaul Machine Tool Plant, which was founded in 1869 by order of then-Emperor of Russia Aleksander I. The company’s ammunition production truly took off during World War II, when they supplied the Russian Army with literally half the ammunition they needed throughout the war. It wasn’t long before they were also supplying the civilian market with ammunition, and today they’re distributing their products all around the world. Brown Bear is known for producing economically-priced ammunition; they know you want to be a high-volume shooter, but that it gets expensive, so they do what they can to make it happen.

These are 7.62x54r rounds, which were first created in 1891 by none other than the Russians. It was first made with the Mosin-Nagant in mind, but as time passed other guns were made chambered in the big rifle round. Winchester had a contract with the Russian government at one point that involved their making the Winchester Model 1895 in this caliber and there are modern-day machine guns chambered in it as well, such as the PKM. In Russia they also have the Dragunov and other sniper rifles chambered in 7.62x54r. One thing’s for sure, it’s a powerful round capable of producing enormous force.

At 174 grain these are considered moderately heavy for the cartridge size. They’re still light enough to travel at substantial speeds, but they’re heavy enough to punch sizable holes in your targets. If you’re looking to annihilate an old holiday lawn ornament at your favorite outdoor shooting spot, these rounds will get it done. These are FMJ rounds and are best for target practice, shooting drills, and plinking such as the aforementioned ornament destruction. Each round zips down-range at a muzzle velocity of 2559 feet per second. In order to save you money, Brown Bear produces this ammunition in steel cases and uses berdan primer to ensure ignition. Ammunition is made at their plant in Russia, which seems appropriate; you have a Russian rifle, why not feed it Russian rounds? Place your order today for this 20-round box.
