- Q & A
It was 1958 when ArmaLite released the AR-15 onto the market, and it was almost instantly popular. Unfortunately ArmaLite had financial problems, which led to their selling the AR-15 design to Colt – which is why a great many shooters think Colt is responsible for the AR-15. But the original gun – an intermediate cartridge, air-cooled, magazine-fed rifle with a rotating bolt lock, came from ArmaLite, and that’s also where it got its name. That’s right, “AR” stands for ArmaLite Rifle, not assault rifle. Colt did make a few changes to the design before selling it as their own, the most obvious being moving the charging handle from beneath the carrying handle to the back of the receiver. Your AR-15 is one cool gun, and it’s got a big appetite.
This .223 ammunition is made by Federal, a company that’s been in business since 1922. Federal started pretty small, so small that founder Charles Horn decided to sell their products in grocery stores and gas stations, among other places (all of which aren’t possible today). They didn’t stay small for long, though; over the years Federal ammunition has been used in abundance for multiple wars and to win medals by multiple Olympic shooters. Today they’re a subsidiary of ATK – Alliant Techsystems – which is a world leader in the production of all kinds of munitions and ordnance including precision and strike weapons. Federal has always been a trustworthy company, and the quality of their ammunition quite literally speaks for itself.
With 200 rounds in this box of ammunition your AR-15 will get a nice meal. At 50 grain these are quite lightweight, and that means they’re capable of moving with exceptional speed. These are JHPs and deliver rapid energy transfer and carefully controlled expansion upon impact; their jackets allow for deeper penetration and, thus, a more devastating wound cavity. This ammunition is good for varmint control and can also be used for target practice. Each round has stunning speed with a muzzle velocity of 3325 feet per second and hammers your target with a muzzle energy of 1227 foot-pounds. Federal manufactures their ammunition at their plant in Anoka, Minnesota. Get your hands on this good quality American-made .223 ammunition today, and feed your AR-15.
