The .30-06 cartridge got its start in 1906 with the U.S. Army, and more than a century later, it’s a favorite of hunters everywhere. It’s considered to be at the upper limits of power that most shooters can easily tolerate, and when it comes to hunting, you certainly want power. In order to better tolerate that recoil, you can use a lighter weight round like these 150 grain rounds. The average 150 grain round produces a full three foot-pounds of power less than even a 165 grain round. Something else hunters need is practice, and that’s what this particular ammunition is meant for.
These are FMJBT – Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail – rounds. They’re specifically designed for target practice and training (and plinking), and their boat tails increase their cross-wind resistance, so if you need to work on your long-range shooting, they’re a nice choice. At 150 grain they’re at the lighter end of the weight spectrum which decreases the substantial recoil you find with many .30-06 rounds. They have a muzzle velocity of 2,740 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 2,500 foot-pounds. If you want to hone your marksmanship skills before you go out to hunt, these Federal rounds are a competitively priced, high-quality option.
Federal’s plant is located in Anoka, Minnesota, so you can be sure your ammunition is being produced right here in the United States. They were founded in 1922 by Charles Horn, and although he started small, selling their products at filling stations and grocery stores, it wasn’t long until the company flourished on a global scale. They received an Army-Navy “E” for excellence for their role in multiple wars and their ammunition has been used to win gold medals in the Olympics. You get 20 rounds in this box of ammunition, so you can put a few rounds down-range or set it in your range bag for later. If you want to get that perfect deer this hunting season, you need practice, and for practice, you should order Federal.
