- Q & A
On April 11, 1986, two serial bank robbers whose names are of no consequence led a team of eight FBI agents on a car chase that ended on the streets of an unincorporated part of Miami. The bank robbers held their own far longer than one might imagine, and when the bullets stopped flying, two FBI agents were dead and five were wounded, leaving only one uninjured. Fortunately the bank robbers were dead, but they’d gone on shooting for some time after each getting shot themselves. The experience led the FBI to believe they needed better firepower for their agents, and after some testing and handloading, the .40 S&W was created.
These .40 S&W rounds are 180 grain, making them heavyweight for the cartridge size. They’re still light enough to fly down-range at fairly high speeds and being heavier weight enables them to deliver a more solid punch on impact. These are Jacked Hollow Point (JHP) rounds and deliver controlled expansion on impact, penetrating more deeply than standard HPs to create a larger, more devastating wound cavity. Each of these rounds has a muzzle velocity of 1010 feet per second and 408 foot-pounds. This is Federal’s Hydra Shok ammunition and is specifically designed for self-defense.
When you order this case of ammunition from Federal, you get 1000 defense rounds. Defense rounds produce more felt recoil and muzzle flip than targets round, making it more difficult to make accurate follow-up shots. The only way to master speedy target re-acquisition is target practice using your chosen defense rounds. Someday your life could depend on whether or not you practiced properly. This ammunition is produced by Federal in fresh brass cases with boxer primer so you can reload spent casings and get even more range time in. Federal manufactures ammunition at their longtime plant in Anoka, Minnesota. To gain the skills you need to defend yourself and those you care about, place your order today.
