- Q & A
This cartridge’s bullet is a bit unusual for the 45 ACP. It’s both a full metal jacket and a semi-wadcutter, with the hard gilding metal jacket it needs to feed smoothly in a semi-automatic and the flat, broad meplat it needs to punch a satisfyingly neat hole through a sheet of paper. The FMJ SWC leaves no ambiguity when it comes time to assess the tightness of your shot groups.
This ammunition is loaded with relatively light 185 grain projectiles, and its muzzle velocity is also relatively low at 770 feet per second (5” test barrel). That means you can look forward to less of the recoil which causes muzzle flip, which you’ll find greatly facilitates fast yet accurate fire.
These range loads’ competition grade bullets are seated in Federal’s Premium brass cases (which are reloadable), and also have the Minnesotan manufacturer’s match grade Boxer primers and propellant charges to take care of consistent ignition. Tight tolerances – tight groups!
