500 Rounds of 230gr JHP .45 ACP Ammo by Federal Hydra-Shok

The Hydra-Shok is no longer Federal’s top-of-the-line law enforcement bullet. The HST took that title away upon its introduction in 2002. But Federal hasn’t continued loading Hydra-Shok ammunition since its debut in 1989 because it doesn’t work.

Quite the contrary. The Hydra-Shok jacketed hollow point features a heavily notched copper jacket to help control its rate of expansion, as well as a unique post jutting out of the center of its nose cavity to achieve the same end. Whether it penetrates a barrier before reaching its target or plows into soft tissue right away, the accurate, fast-expanding, and deep-penetrating Hydra-Shok JHP can be counted on to get the job done (and by “job,” we do mean "neutralizing the threat”).

This 230 grain ammo is loaded a little hot at 900 fps muzzle velocity (5” test barrel). It’s still standard pressure, but it recoils and hits harder than regular training ammo. Federal helps semi-automatics cycle more reliably by plating Hydra-Shok ammo’s cases in low-friction nickel, which provides the added benefit of protecting the brass against humidity while it sits in storage.
