The RPD is a handheld machine gun created in 1945 for use by the Russian Army. It replaced the DP machine gun, which was chambered in 7.62x54r, and was actually the precursor for today’s squad automatic weapons (commonly referred to as SAWs). The RPD is striker-fired and only fires on full-auto, and is chambered in 7.62x39mm, in fact it’s the firearm 7.62x39mm was originally designed for use with. It wasn’t long before more guns came along for use with the 7.62x39mm round – you might be a bit familiar with the SKS and AK-47 – and today there are a number of guns chambered in the tough rifle round. If your gun is one of them, you need some good target rounds to keep your gun well-fed, which means these Federal rounds are just for you.
At 124 grain these are considered fairly lightweight rounds for the cartridge. They’re Full Metal Jacket and don’t expand on impact, so they’re ideal for target practice, tactical training, and plinking. Each round flies to meet your target impressively fast with a muzzle velocity of 2300 feet per second and strikes your target hard with a muzzle energy of 1456 foot-pounds. Federal produces this ammunition in virgin brass cases with boxer primer; these rounds are reloadable and also non-corrosive, so they create far less friction in your gun’s barrel. Avid shooters who have used this ammunition are impressed with its reliable cycling and functions as a great target round, which is exactly what it’s meant to do.
There are 20 target rounds in this box of ammunition from Federal. Federal was founded in 1922 by Charles Horn, who took over the struggling business hoping he could help it grow. He started out distributing ammunition in grocery stores and filling stations, and before long Federal had been offered military contracts, including a large one to start and operate the Twin City Ordnance Plant. In fact, Federal was heavily involved in supplying the military for World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Ammunition is manufactured at their plant in Anoka, Minnesota, and must meet their high standards to even leave the factory. If you have a rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm, you should be feeding it good quality ammunition. Order Federal and keep your gun loaded with American-made, high-quality target rounds.
