In 1876, Giulio Fiocchi took the reins at a struggling ammunition company in Lecco, Italy. He took charge just as some major changes were taking place in the world of firearms; breech loaders were replacing muzzle loaders, and black powder was about to be phased out as well. Under Giulio’s guidance, Fiocchi Munizioni (Fiocchi Ammunition) did exceptionally well, and today they have a stellar reputation in the industry and are one of Italy’s biggest, oldest ammunition manufacturers. They have their NATO AQAP-110 certification and are ISO 14001 and UNI EN ISO 9001 certified; all ammunition meets SAAMI or CIP specifications. If you’ve used Fiocchi, you know what all the fuss is about; if you haven’t, it’s past time you did.
This is 77 grain ammunition, so it’s moderately weighty for .223 Remington. It’s still light enough to move exceptionally fast but it’s heavy enough to make a serious impact, and those are two things you definitely want in hunting rounds: speed and power. These are HPBT rounds and deliver fantastic rapid energy transfer, expanding on impact to create a devastating wound channel. Their BT’s help them resist cross-winds and make them a good choice for long-range shots. Each round flies to your target in less than the blink of an eye with a muzzle velocity of 2660 feet per second and hammers home with a muzzle energy of 1209 foot-pounds. This ammunition is great for hunting and can also be used by those who use their AR-15’s for home defense.
You get 20 Hollow Point rounds in this single box. It’s the perfect size for slipping into your vest pocket when you go out on a hunt and also a good size for stashing in your range bag, although if you want substantial shooting time, you might want to order more than one box. Fiocchi’s original and main plant is located in Lecco, Italy, but they do have a plant in Ozark, Missouri, for distribution in the U.S. When the demand overwhelms their Missouri plant, ammunition is shipped in from Italy, otherwise your ammo is made right here in the States. Fiocchi ammunition performs well and cycles dependably. Your rife deserves a healthy snack, so get some!
