This cartridge is loaded with a heavy 158 grain bullet, and its 850 fps muzzle velocity is higher than that of a conventional target load. It is not a +P round, so it should function safely in an older revolver. Its recoil is a little more stout, but its ability to dump about 250 ft lbs of kinetic energy into a target at very close range makes it more effective for personal protection. The nonmagnetic jacketed hollow point’s nose cavity is unrestricted by gilding metal, which helps it to expand wider even when it has less momentum backing it up. Even if the JHP fails to expand all together, its blunt nose profile will still deal greater damage to soft tissues than an analogous round nose FMJ.
