- Q & A
A large part of self-defense training has to do with accuracy and the “aim small, miss small” school of thought. A great exercise for accuracy is putting bullseye targets on the chest area of an IDPA target and then, whatever drill you’re working through, shoot as quickly as you can – without sacrificing accuracy. You should be aiming for that bullseye, and with time you’ll both be able to score a bullseye hit from greater distances and manage a higher rate of fire. Under the high stress of a life-threatening scenario the average shooter loses between 50% and 75% of their accuracy, so the more you’ve trained, the better, because you’ll have greater accuracy to work with from the start.
Another vital part of training is taking the time to train using defense ammunition, because defense rounds have more power overall and, of course, more recoil, than target rounds. The only way to be sure of your accuracy and follow-up shots is to train with the ammunition you’ll actually be using during the scenario, so you’re going to have to carry out part of your training with defense rounds. This particular ammunition is heavy at 180 grain, so it has greater knockdown power and will have more recoil to go with it. These are JHP’s and deliver carefully controlled expansion on impact for deeper penetration than the average HP, creating a more catastrophic wound track. This ammunition was designed specifically for self-defense, and it certainly gets the job done.
You get 1000 defense rounds in this case, so you’ll be able to get in the necessary realistic training time. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 1000 feet per second and muzzle energy of 400 foot-pounds. Fiocchi produces this ammunition in virgin brass cases with boxer primer, so you can collect your spent casings, reload them, and get even more training in. Fiocchi was founded in 1876 and their main plant is located in Lecco, Italy, but they do have a plant in Ozark, Missouri, for distribution in the United States. These are quality defense rounds with a reputation for consistent expansion and reliable performance. Don’t train for a self-defense situation with only target rounds, train with these Fiocchi JHP’s to gain the skills you need to save lives.
