- Q & A
While these .40 S&W rounds are part of a relatively young caliber, the manufacturer has a rich history. Fiocchi was founded on July 3, 1776, by Giulio Fiocchi, who took over production at an existing company in Lecco, Italy. Under his guidance the plant began to flourish, which was no small feat considering the big changes going on in the firearms world at the time. Right as he was trying to get Fiocchi off the ground breech loaders were replacing muzzle loaders, and not long after black powder was phased out almost entirely. Part of what kept Fiocchi ahead of the curve was the fact that they have always designed and manufactured their own production equipment, giving them above-average quality control. Fiocchi is known for their quality ammunition and is now one of the oldest, largest ammunition companies in Italy.
These are heavy 180 grain rounds; at this weight they’re going to do serious damage to your intended target. They’re JHP’s and not only expand on impact but deliver controlled expansion, meaning they deliver greater penetration and a more devastating wound track than the average HP. Each round leaves the barrel of your gun with a muzzle velocity of 1000 feet per second and meets its target with serious power with a muzzle energy of 400 foot-pounds. This ammunition is designed specifically for self-defense purposes but should also be used for training to ensure you’re completely comfortable and proficient with the greater power of a defense round.
You get 50 defense rounds when you order this box of ammunition from Fiocchi. With 50 rounds you can load your gun for personal protection and also fire a couple mags’ worth to start getting accustomed to the increased recoil. Although Fiocchi is based in Italy and their main plant is in Lecco, Italy, they do have a plant in Ozark, Missouri, for distribution in the United States. When the demand is overwhelming ammunition is shipped in from Italy to fill the extra need. Fiocchi manufactures this ammunition in fresh brass cases with boxer primer, so you can reload spent casings and get even more range time in. Be ready for anything with Fiocchi’s defense ammunition; don’t wait for the worst to happen; order today.
