- Q & A
When Hornady set about creating a new cartridge specifically for target shooting with rifles, they ended up with the 6.5 Creedmoor. It was designed in 2007 and began production in 2008. Its parent case was the .30 TC and it is made with, of course, 6.5mm bullets which measure .264” in diameter. Some 6.5 Creedmoor loads produce a muzzle velocity similar to that of the .300 Win Mag only with significantly less felt recoil thanks to the lighter bullet weight. This is a cartridge that is known for accuracy, in fact shooter Ray Sanchez once referred to it as “boringly accurate” at a distance of 1000 yards.
These particular 6.5 Creedmoor rounds are manufactured by Hornady. They weigh in at 140 grain which is heavy for this cartridge size. Because they are heavier they’re able to strike targets with greater force. These are Hornady’s A-Max rounds which have polymer tips and are specifically designed for superior accuracy. They have Boat Tails which help them resist cross winds and maintain a balanced trajectory and an ultra low-drag tip for a fantastic ballistic coefficient. This ammunition expands on impact and is meant for accurate target shooting but can also be used for hunting game such as whitetail deer.
When you order this single box of ammunition from Hornady you get 20 A-Max rounds. That’s just enough to give you and your rifle a taste of what this ammunition can do. You might want to order more than one box to be sure you won’t run out at an inopportune moment. This ammunition is produced in fresh brass cases with boxer primer so you can collect your spent casings and reload them. Each round produces a muzzle velocity of 2710 feet per second and muzzle energy of 2283 foot-pounds. Hornady manufactures ammunition at their factory in Grand Island, Nebraska according to high standards. Whether you’re looking for a highly accurate competition round or want to fill your deer tag, order now.
