- Q & A
.50 BMG was designed in a team effort between Winchester Repeating Arms Co. and Franklin Arsenal and began production in 1921. It took years to perfect this hard-hitting cartridge, which was originally made for the Browning .50 cal machine gun. Interestingly it was actually John Browning who came up with the concept for this cartridge during World War I when he realized a better anti-aircraft weapon was needed. The .50 BMG was actually based on the idea of a significantly more powerful .30-06, and it certainly delivers.
These particular .50 BMG rounds are made by Lake City. These rounds weigh in at a hefty 660 grain which is impressively big for rifles in general but actually on the lighter side for the .50 BMG. Because it is a bit lighter for its size it’s able to travel down-range at higher speeds than its heavier counterparts. These are FMJ, Full Metal Jacket, rounds and do not expand on impact. These are also tracer rounds, designed to leave a brief visual trail in their path so you can track their trajectory. Keep in mind that tracers can start fires when not used properly. This ammunition is great for target practice and specific training drills.
When you order this box of Lake City ammunition you get 100 tracer rounds. That’s enough ammo for you to have an awesome time with your .50 BMG (although just think of the fun you could have with even more ammo). Lake City produces this ammunition in virgin brass cases with boxer primer, so you can collect your spent brass, reload it, and get even more trigger time. Each round produces a muzzle velocity of 12413 feet per second and muzzle energy of 2910 foot-pounds. Lake City manufactures ammunition at their factory in Independence, Missouri according to exacting standards for quality and performance. Order now to work on your accuracy with the help of these .50BMG tracers.
