The .38 Special was created in 1898 as a stronger option than the .38 Long Colt. During the Philippine-American War, the US Cavalry discovered the .38 Long Colt was wholly inadequate at stopping the crazed charges of the Moro warriors, and so they asked Smith and Wesson to create a replacement. And in much the same way as the Cavalry needed a suitable self-defense round, you need a quality defense round for your personal carry weapon. These Magtech .38 Special 158 grain SJHP rounds were created with your personal protection needs in mind.
These are semi-jacketed hollow points, so they’re fantastic for self-defense and have a special feature the average HP round does not. Upon impact, these SJHP rounds deliver immediate energy transfer and begin to expand, creating a devastating wound track in their path. But unlike regular hollow points, which simply mushroom and decelerate, the semi-jacketing on these rounds allows them to penetrate more fully before they stop. As a result, you get a significantly deeper, more catastrophic wound track. And if you think the 1,000 rounds in the box is a high number, it really isn’t. SJHP doesn’t fire exactly like target rounds do, so you need to spend dedicated range time becoming accustomed to the feel of defense rounds.
Magtech manufactures their ammunition at their plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and because their plant is vertically integrated, they’re able to closely monitor every step of the production process. The result is good quality ammunition at competitive prices. These are medium-weight rounds at 158 grain, so they maintain speed while having enough weight to hit harder. They have a muzzle velocity of 807 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 228 foot-pounds. They’re brass-cased, boxer-primed, and reloadable. And with 1,000 rounds in the box, you’ll have enough to put some focused self-defense training time in and still have some left over for concealed carry. If you conceal carry your .38 Special, these are precisely the type of rounds you should be ordering.
