This cartridge is loaded with a 180 grain projectile. That’s lighter than what most people would recommend for deer hunting, but at closer ranges it’s more than capable of managing a boar or an immediate threat to your personal safety. Its hard gilding metal jacket toughens the nonmagnetic jacketed hollow point bullet to promote deeper penetration, but it also stops just shy of the rim so as not to interfere with the nose cavity’s rapid terminal expansion. The JHP’s circular nose profile will punch a broad hole into its target even when it hasn’t got sufficient momentum to initiate expansion. That flat meplat will also punch a clean hole through paper, and it makes the bullet safe for lever-action rifles as well.
