6.5x52mm Carcano, which is also sometimes referred to as 6.5x52mm Parravicini-Carcano or 6.5x52mm Mannlincher-Carcano, was designed in 1889 and first began to see use in 1891. It was used until about 1970 by the militaries of several countries including Italy, Finland, and Germany – Nazi Germany, specifically – and saw use through multiple wars including the First Italio-Ethiopian War, the Italo-Turkish War, the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, and both World Wars. It’s a rimless, bottle-necked cartridge that was meant for infantry use and is sometimes now used for hunting deer, where it has a best range of approximately 200 yards. Perhaps this round’s most famous, or, rather, infamous, moment was its being used in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
