Remington got its start in 1816 as E. Remington and Sons, and now, almost 200 years later, the venerable company has become a giant in the world of firearms and ammunition. They’re the biggest and oldest constantly operating manufacturer in North America as well as the only U.S. company that produces all their firearms and ammunition domestically; for those reasons alone their reputation is deservedly incredible. Remington has six facilities for various purposes, and the manufacture of ammo takes place at their Lonoke, Arkansas, plant. If you need to feed your gun, you just can’t do better than Remington.
Appropriately, the .223 Remington was, of course, created by Remington themselves in 1964. It’s a cartridge with similar dimensions to the 5.56x45mm NATO, but the similarities are only external. Internally, a .223 round has less pressure than a 5.56 does. The .223 Remington round falls right between its parent cartridges, the .222 Remington and the .222 Remington Magnum, from a ballistic standpoint. It was designed to fit the M16, but it didn’t take long for the big, brash round to gain popularity with the general public as well.
These .223 rounds are a lightweight 55 grain, and being light means they can reach even greater speeds. This is Metal Case ammunition, which is Remington’s version of FMJ, and as such does not expand and tends to over-penetrate, so you need to have a good backstop. This ammunition is great for target practice, tactical training, and plinking. Each round flies down-range with a muzzle velocity of 3240 feet per second and hits home with a muzzle energy of 1282 foot-pounds. There are 20 target rounds in this box. Don’t load your rifle with just any .223’s, get your ammunition from a legend. Get it from Remington.
