It was 1898 when Smith and Wesson came up with the .38 Special, and in the last 100+ years it’s gone through various waves of use and popularity, but one thing has remained steady, and that is its solid standing as a self-defense gun. There are many experienced shooters who swear by the .38 Special as their back-up gun, but also some who use it as their daily carry, and there are some specific reasons for that. For one thing the .38 Special has a good reputation for accuracy, and, of course, it has manageable recoil. If you carry a .38 Special for personal protection, it’s a good idea not just to load it with defense rounds but to load it with overpressure rounds for even more power.
These +P, or overpressure, rounds are 125 grain, making them the pretty lightweight. Their lighter weight lends them greater speed and as +P rounds they have more power than they would otherwise. These are SJHP – Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point – rounds, so they deliver rapid energy transfer on impact and also immediately began to expand. Their expansion is carefully controlled by the jacketing, which allows the bullet to penetrate more deeply, creating a more catastrophic wound channel. Being an HP round also prevents over-penetration. These rounds are made for self-defense, but it’s a good idea to put in some range time with them as well to get used to their greater power. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 945 feet per second and muzzle energy of 248 foot-pounds.
There are 500 defense rounds in this box, made by Remington, a legendary company in the world of firearms and ammunition, at their plant in Lonoke, Arkansas. Remington was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington, and they are well-known for their production of high-quality products. Their dedication to making superior guns and ammunition for shooters just like you has leant to their stellar reputation, and the performance of those products has solidified it. If you want to make sure your .38 Special has all the power it can get in case of a self-defense situation, get your hands on these +P rounds. Remington takes your protection seriously, and so should you.
