This cartridge launches its 115 grain bullet at 2,477 feet per second (noting that S&B’s 1:10” twist test barrel is a tiny bit shorter than average at 23-1/2”). As a hollow point boat tail, that bullet is designed to conserve every ounce of momentum as it’s able, which translates to higher downrange velocity retention downrange (~61% at 500 yards), increased resistance to wind deflection, and flatter overall trajectory.

The HPBT’s nose cavity indicates that its core was inserted through its tip, which is (A) why its core is so evenly distributed, and (B) the reason why the bullet has a fully jacketed base, which prevents lead aerosolization that might otherwise have worsened in-flight stability.
