- Q & A
The 9x19mm Parabellum/Luger was designed by Georg Luger in 1901. It was an adaptation from his older 7.65x21mm Parabellum cartridge, which was an adaption itself, from the 7.65x25mm Borchardt round. Luger’s first change was simply to shorten the older cartridge, but then, realizing more was needed, he altered the bottleneck shape, creating a rimless, tapered cartridge; the 9x19mm Parabellum. When he presented the 9mm cartridge to the British Small Arms Committee, he also showed prototypes to the U.S. Army, which carried out testing at the Springfield Arsenal. Changes have been made along the way, including the ogive of the bullet being redesigned for better feeding, but one thing has stayed the same: the 9mm is a popular cartridge, and odds are you, you have one.
This 9mm ammunition is a lightweight 115 grain. These are JHP’s and deliver controlled expansion on impact. The jacket means these bullets expand more slowly than standard HP rounds, so they penetrate more deeply, creating a larger, more catastrophic wound channel. This ammunition is specifically designed for self-defense. Defense rounds have greater power and more recoil than target rounds, so it’s a good idea to spend some time training with your chosen defense ammunition. For that reason, buying larger quantities of defense ammunition is a good idea. These rounds have a muzzle velocity of 1237 feet per second and muzzle energy of 391 foot-pounds.
When you order this case of ammo, you get 1000 defense rounds, so you’ll have enough to keep a few mags loaded for personal protection and have plenty left over to train with. This ammunition is manufactured by Sellier and Bellot at their plant in Vlasim, Czech Republic. Sellier and Bellot was founded in 1825, and for almost 200 years shooters like you have been counting on them for reliable ammunition.
