More Details About This SIG 180gr JHP 10mm Ammo
The 10mm is an immensely powerful cartridge – but brute force alone isn’t always enough. You want a self-defense round with a bullet that’s solely designed for self-defense. In other words, you want a round loaded with Sig Sauer’s V-Crown jacketed hollow point.

This round’s 180 grain JHP is designed to pierce barriers and soft tissue without breaking apart. In addition to preserving the bullet’s seating depth, the V-Crown’s special toothed cannelure mechanically locks its core and jacket together so the two components can retain the combined weight they need to penetrate deeply.

The V-Crown’s tough lead-alloy core is divided by a series of radial scores. These help its nose cavity produce a more uniform mushroom, and its jacket is also skived so it can split apart evenly as it guides consistent terminal expansion.

The V-Crown is socketed in a nickel-plated brass case, which boasts higher resistance to corrosion and enhanced lubricity to promote surer feeding and extraction in a semi-auto. Sig also formulates this ammo’s propellant to produce very little muzzle flash, which will help keep your eyes acclimated to a dark setting.

I own a Ruger 3 inch bbl SP 101 and am thinking of a Glock 29 in 10mm. I’m 76 years old, which do you think is better for me? Posted On: 4/16/2026 By: Louis Holt
Hi Louis! The SP101's available chambered for everything from 22 LR up to 357 Mag. I don't know which round you're comparing to the 10mm. I also don't know what kind of 76 years old. Maybe you look like you're a hundred. Maybe you're still strong enough to push nurses across a room, like my grandpa was up in to his 90s. The 10mm's recoil is a little too robust for some folks (including many FBI agents, which is why it got chopped down to 40 S&W), so I can only say there's a chance you'll find it too snappy if you're accustomed to 9mm or 38 Spl (two more SP101 chamberings). Best advice I can give is go to a range that rents guns and try out a G29 hands-on. Only other concern is whether you prefer revolvers or not. I reckon nothing's more reliable than a wheelgun, but ten rounds in a G29 mag is a lot more than six in a cylinder. Wish I could be of greater direction, but I know too little about your SP101 and strength/skill to recommend anything valuable. Test out a G29 is all I can say!
