If you've been a shooter for long, you've probably heard of Silver Bear's burly brother, Brown Bear. Well, these rounds come from the same Russian ammunition plant. Both are subsidiaries of the Barnual Machine Tool Plant in Russia, an industrial and Ammunition Company. Silver Bear Ammunition is a distinctive version of the Bear Ammunition company, as all of its ammo features a highly distinctive zinc plating on the cartridge case. Hmmm... zinc. Something your rifle needs anyway, right?

Each round is 147 grain, zinc plated steel, full metal jacketed (FMJ), and loaded with a Berdan primer. 147gr is a lightweight round for 7.62x54r, and as a result will have less of a recoil and greater muzzle velocity, with each round delivering a muzzle velocity of approximately 2,785 feet per second.

As discussed above, these are zinc plated steel ammo. Zinc plated steel ammunition is often reserved for law enforcement and other special purposes. These rounds are also Berdan primed, the standard for European markets and cartridges. Despite being much more difficult to reload the empty cartridges, Berdan primers are generally more reliable than boxer primers and have a longer shelf life as well. As an added plus, they also tend to be more resistant to corrosion over Boxer primers.
