The vast majority of frangible ammunition is made for target shooting. SinterFire Special Duty? It’s a special exception.

SinterFire makes frangible bullets by heating and pressurizing copper and tin powders until they form a solid mass. The sintering process does not liquefy those powders, however, which is why the frangible bullet is brittle. When it hits steel or another hard surface, it crumbles.

Shooters typically favor frangible bullets for target shooting because they (A) virtually eliminate the possibility of injurious splash-back, and (B) contain zero lead, thereby promoting a healthier shooting environment. This round’s frangible hollow point (HP) bullet would do the same things at the gun range. But because it is designed to widen and break apart inside soft tissue, it poses a lower (but not zero) risk of passing clean through the threat, as well as a lower (ditto) risk of piercing multiple walls.

SinterFire markets this ammo for law enforcement applications in sensitive environments, such as hospitals, courtrooms, power plants, and so on. You may consider you own home to be such an environment. SinterFire Special Duty is indeed the safer way to defend, but take care. A frangible bullet is by no means guaranteed not to over-penetrate the threat and/or pierce walls.

This is not over-pressure (+P) ammunition. Its muzzle velocity is abnormally high because its lead-free bullets are abnormally light.
